In addition to offering academic studies and access to diagnostic care, the Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children offers vocational skills to both children and adults in the Gaza Strip. Located in Gaza City, the income earned helps families survive the economic blockade imposed on the peninsula by the Israeli government.
A shop within the facility sells items produced by the children and the more than 200 adults who become skilled woodworkers, ceramic artists and experts in traditional Palestinian crafts, such as cross-stitch and embroidery.
Atfaluna provides deaf adult education and vocational training as one aspect of a multi-faceted program that addresses hearing loss. It operates an audiology clinic, a speech pathology clinic and runs a school for approximately 270 children. (See Ministry Partners.)
